GUKPT Newcastle 2009 Main Event Live Updates

newcastle-grosvenorThis is only my 2nd post in May which is pretty bad going for a blog but to be honest just can’t be arsed to write about anything poker related plus i’ve never played since the NPF birthday game (note: good idea to have written something).  I do have plenty of ideas for articles but finding the motivation to write decent content is very tough at the moment.

For the next 4 days i’ll be in the Grosvenor Newcastle doing live updates for the GUKPT Main Event for Newcastle Poker Forum.  Around this time last year, NPF had only been launched about a month and we decided it would be a great opportunity to do live updates for the event but mainly concentrating on local players which is what people actually want to see how their friends are doing. It turned out that the updates were a huge success and was a great foundation to get the forum to grow into what it is today which lead to a lot of live updates covering smaller local events and also some further afield.

The festival started on Monday with a £200 Freezeout which had 126 runners and although there were no plans for updates, omahaha from NPF kicked them off by doing them off his iPod whilst playing the event! The thread on the forum got over 5,000 views which is quite amazing for just a small event.  For the main event this year we’re better prepared with a team of 4 although 2 of us will be playing the main event.  It’s very very hard work to basically always be prepared to get information for 10 hours a day over 4 days.  I’m glad there’s a bank holiday on Monday as I remember last year taking a week just to recover from it.

If you’re looking for updates for the rest of the GUKPT, head over to the Live Tournament Updates section on Newcastle Poker Forum.
