I’ve delayed my blog a long time after being really busy running the Newcastle Poker Forum which has taken up the majority of my time for the past 7 months. Once I set up the forum I knew i’d have an active part in the poker community so thought i’d have some interesting things to say in a blog.
Most people don’t know anything about me and if you do know me, it’s probably through my dad (teamdobb). So here’s a little about me.
I started playing poker when I was 15 when I played war games and I heard a person playing poker so he got me join up to the old Victor Chandler and I was playing for play money within 5 minutes. At this time I had zero idea how to play and it took me a few weeks to even bother knowing what the hand ranks were. Then one day my dad came in my room and asked what he was doing and was massively fascinated that I was playing this card game online as if it was the most revolutionary thing on the planet. Next thing is, he’s got signed up as well and is winning thousands in play money. My interest died away as I couldn’t play for real money but was still interested in watching my dad learn the game.
I managed to get a couple of real poker accounts when I was 16 and made deposits with my solo bank card without any age verification so shame on those sites. I’ve always been very responsisble with money so never played with money I couldn’t afford to lose so kept to micro stakes and I never asked my parents for any money for this activity. I never won anything and never learned the game in the same way I do now but knew I would have a good knowledge and understanding of the game.
It wasn’t long until I was 18 and then had my first live game at the Grosvenor Casino Newcastle which was a £3 rebuy and played exceptionally tight then busted just after the break. From then on I started to take the game more serious and have gained masses amount of knowledge from books, articles and videos etc but have still failed to win anything of insignificance.
Now i’m 20, i’m still trying to learn everything there is about the game and trying to win something along the way. It’s not about the money for me, I get a lot more enjoyment out of just learning the game and the great feeling of achievement when it gets paid off. So while i’m writing this, i’m looking forward to my first big live event that will be the $300 side event at the Caribbean Poker Classic Cruise which is on 17 November 2008. Eventhough it’s way out of my bankroll, the good thing is i’m treating it like holiday money so won’t have that feeling of being bothered about losing.

being not afraid of losing and playing within your limits are very important parts of playing poker sensibly.
